Course Description:

This important course covers the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s (NJDEP) Ground Water Quality Standards under N.J.A.C. 7:9C and the Remediation Standards under N.J.A.C. 7:26D, which include standards for soil, migration to groundwater, soil leachate, and indoor air pathways. These standards will be explored in detail and will focus on the following:

• Understanding the concept of "Order of Magnitude" (OOM) and their application in remediation.
• How to apply to various media and pathways during remediation phases (e.g., PA, RI, RAW, RA, RAO).
• Methods for determining and addressing OOM changes.
• Adjusting institutional controls, Remedial Action Plans (RAP), and implications for clean fill imports, especially for historic fill sites.
• Case studies illustrating how the standards apply in real-world scenarios.
• Considerations for alternate remediation standards and timeframes.

Instructors, Candace Baker, Brandi Gray and Shelly Beitler, will emphasize practical application and evaluation of these revised standards across various stages of site remediation.
