Moderator: David Sweeney, LSRPA Assistant Director Description: LSRPA, as well as many partnering organizations, has been engaging with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to educate them about various problems encountered by environmental professionals. These problems range from the increasing length of time for NJDEP to issue Remedial Action Permits to questioning an LSRP’s Independent Professional Judgement (“IPJ”). The LSRPA has also submitted White Papers regarding IPJ to the NJDEP, both individually and as part of a coalition of concerned partners, and participated in a listening session set up by NJDEP in response to these papers. In its May 2, 2023 correspondence, NJDEP provided responses to several of the issues raised in the White Papers and during the listening session. Further, NJDEP established the RPII as a collaborative effort with LSRPs, the regulated community and other stakeholders to identify and address remaining issues. LSRPA recently participated in the first RPII meeting with NJDEP on June 8th.
