The LSRPA Foundation awards the Elmeryl Davies Memorial Scholarship annually through a competitive application and review process. The scholarship furthers the LSRPA Foundation’s mission to encourage students to pursue careers in the environmental remediation field and is given to undergraduate students entering into the junior or senior year of a four-year accredited geoscience or engineering program. The scholarship is named for the late wife of Julian Davies, one of the founders of the LSRPA. NJSWEP awards scholarships to one female graduate student and one female undergraduate student pursuing environmentally-related studies who demonstrate a commitment to pursue a career in the environmental field. Recipients receive a scholarship of approximately $2,000 as well as a free one-year membership to NJSWEP and access to its mentoring and networking opportunities. Benjamin Alter of GZA, who also is a Board Member and Founder of the LSRPA Foundation, said, “The LSRPA Foundation will use the funds to help the next generation of environmental professionals complete their education and get started on their new careers.” LSRPA Steering Committee member and Golf Event Chair Joe Postorino of AWT Environmental Services said, “Both organizations achieved their fundraising goals and we rewarded a successful “brownfield” project, Eagle Ridge Golf Club, with our patronage.” Eagle Ridge Golf Club is built on a reclaimed gravel mine. The event was a first for both NJSWEP and the LSRPA, but both organizations don’t think it will be the last. NJSWEP Co-Chairs Jillian Mooney and Kavitha Subramaniam said the event was a true success for NJSWEP and they hope to host another golf event with the LSRPA. “We certainly appreciate the many sponsors and more than 120 golfers and dinner guests who supported the scholarship funds,” said Mooney. “Efforts to advance environmental education align perfectly with our goals and make NJSWEP very proud,” said Subramaniam.
