Elmeryl Davies Memorial Scholarships

Since 2016, The LSRPA Foundation has awarded scholarships to undergraduate juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are pursuing careers in the environmental and scientific fields. The Elmeryl Davies Memorial Scholarship is named after the late wife of Julian Davies, a founding member of the LSRPA. Scholarships are available to students who are residents of New Jersey or are attending an accredited college in New Jersey. Scholarship awardees are given opportunities to connect with LSRPA members to apply for internships and full-time jobs upon graduation.

In ten years since its inception, the Foundation has awarded Elmeryl Davies Memorial Scholarships to over 80 students from 16 universities. To read articles about some past awardees, click on the links below.

Suzanne Macaoay Memorial Scholarships

Since 2024, the LSRPA Foundation has awarded scholarships to students attending community colleges in New Jersey who are pursuing degrees in a science or engineering discipline. The scholarship fund honors the late Suzanne “Suzy” Macaoay, an active LSRPA member and geologist who began her academic career at a New Jersey community college. Scholarships currently are awarded by partnering with seven community colleges in New Jersey: Atlantic/Cape May; Gloucester/Salem d/b/a Rowen University of South Jersey; Middlesex; Morris; Passaic; Raritan Valley; and Union. Each year, seven students are awarded with “Suzy Mac” scholarships, each scholarship worth $1,500 to $2,000.

Grants to Environmental Organizations

The LSRPA Foundation partners with various not-for-profit organizations in New Jersey to assist those organizations in their pursuit of improving New Jersey’s environment. Since 2022, we have partnered with the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) in awarding grants to its member environmental commissions for community improvement projects. The LSRPA Foundation also has supported community improvement projects sponsored or co-sponsored by the New Jersey Conservation Foundation and the New Jersey Nature Conservancy.

Networking and Fundraising Events

Since 2016, the LSRPA has partnered with New Jersey Society of Women Professionals (NJSWEP) in sponsoring an annual golf outing. Held in October, this event attracts over 200 attendees and dozens of sponsors. Over $320,000 has been raised to benefit the scholarship funds of the two organizations.

Another popular fundraiser is the annual “Battle of the Beach” Cornhole tournament. Held in August at Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant, this event raises over $17,000 per year for the Foundation. Last year’s event had 189 participants and 24 sponsors. You can view the photos from the 2025 event by clicking here.

The third major fundraiser for the Foundation is the annual Battle of the Bands competition. NJSWEP and the Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) co-sponsor the event with the LSRPA, which gives its share of the proceeds to the Foundation. Also held at Martell’s Tiki Bar (inside, not on the sand), it showcases the musical talents of members from all three organizations. This multi-band concert certainly is the most boisterous of the Foundation’s three main fundraising events.
